Position: Lathe Machinist


The Machinist shall set up and perform a normal range of machining operations on conventional and special purpose machines, CNC turning machines and various types of machine tools to repair aircraft parts.

Essential Functions of the Position:

  • Set up and operate: Proto Trak lathe and Horizontal Engine Lathes.
  • Able to create conversational programs using repair manuals, blueprints, part drawings and verbal instructions on Proto Trak lathe
  • CNC Lathe experience a plus
  • Work from process travelers, blueprints, part drawings, manuals specifications and verbal directions to determine proper dimensions and tolerances of finished part, sequence of operations, and setup requirements.
  • Select and align holding fixtures and cutting tools. Regulate machining factors such as speed, feed, coolant flow, and depth and angle cut.
  • Perform turning operations. Observe machine operations to detect malfunctions for out- of- tolerance machining.
  • Measure work with various measuring tools that may include: Indicators, Calipers, Verniers, Micrometers, Dial bores, and Gage blocks to check work and verify conformance of finished part.
  • Confer with senior machinists and other production personnel to resolve machining problems.
  • Make recommendations for improvements.
  • Detect faulty operations or other problems and report to immediate supervisor.
  • Maintain good housekeeping practices on machines and in work area.
  • Comply with all company and safety rules and regulations. Wear necessary personal protective equipment as required.
  • Actively participate in cross-training, cost savings and team activities to improve processes. Maintain appropriate tact and diplomacy in dealings with co-workers, team members and supervisors.

Job Requirements and Qualifications:

  • A minimum of 3 years of maintenance experience.
  • A proven safety record.
  • Must have a valid Driver’s License
  • Must be able to operate a manual hoist
  • Must be able to lift up to 30 lbs without assistance
  • Must be able to use a hand truck or dolly
