Position:    Thermal Spray Technician      

Summary:  The Thermal Spray Technician’s responsibilities include but are not limited to the following: Masking, Grit blasting, using automated equipment in preparation for thermal spray applications.

Essential Functions of the Position:

  • Must have experience with aircraft components, preferably in an overhaul and repair (MRO) environment
  • Must be a self-starter, willing to learn with a good attitude
  • Work from verbal instructions, routers, customer specifications and blueprints to layout work and to prepare components for specific coating
  • Experienced thermal spray operator versed in Praxair and Sulzer-Metco plasma systems and thermal spray equipment.  At least 5+ years of production experience, which include complete training and experience in robotic operations and grit blast operations.   
  • Familiarity with ABB robots (programming not required) 
  • Visually inspect components for defects, and unusual conditions.
  • Clean part in preparation for masking.
  • Application of masking tape or hard tooling to protect areas not requiring coatings.
  • Safe Loading/Unloading of components into holding fixtures. 
  • Perform preventative maintenance and daily checks on all thermal spray equipment.
  • Visual inspection of coated component to ensure it complies with all specifications and requirements.
  • Clean all equipment and components of masking materials.
  • Detect faulty operations and materials along with other problems to immediate supervisor.
  • Maintain good housekeeping practices on machines and in work areas.
  • Comply with all company and safety rules and regulations. Wear necessary personal protective equipment as required.
  • Actively participate in cross-training, cost savings and team activities to improve processes.
  • Maintain appropriate tack and diplomacy in dealings with co-workers, team members and supervisors.

Required education: High school or equivalent

Job Requirements and Qualifications:

  • A minimum of 3 years performing these types of tasks.
  • A proven safety record
  • Must have a valid Driver’s License

Job Description:

  • Must be able to operate a manual hoist
  • Must be able to lift up to 30 lbs without assistance
  • Must be able to use a hand truck or dolly
